It's October and that means the countdown to Halloween is on! Halloween is my favorite holiday and Halloween-themed items are my go-to décor year-round. What's not to love? Pumpkins come alive as jack-o-lanterns, you get to dress up and try on a new character, all the fun scary (but not too scary) things, not to mention candy!
This weekend my husband, my son, and I watched my all-time favorite movie together, a classic, The Nightmare before Christmas. I saw it in the theater when it came out in 1993 (I was in high school). I have the VHS tape, the soundtrack - on cassette no less, and a clay Jack necklace I made, which I’m wearing in this picture.
In case you haven't seen it, here’s a brief synopsis. Jack is the King of Halloween Town where the residents put on the beloved holiday every year. But he's lost his inspiration. He goes for a walk in the woods and stumbles into Christmas Town where he sees new and exciting things. He is obsessed and ultimately decides to take over the holiday. Hard work, hijinks, and some notably poor choices happen.
Don’t worry – everything works out in the end and Jack even finds his true love.
The meaning particularly struck me this year. I think it's relevant for a lot of us when we experience burnout, whether it’s from certain life events – pandemic, anyone? – or other things we go through. Who hasn't struggled to find inspiration, enjoyment, and even excitement? Who hasn't felt those things impossible to imagine when it's hard enough to get out of bed to tackle the daily routine and ever-growing to-do list?
I love that Jack got excited about something, jumped out of his comfort zone, and tried something new. If only Jack had a Coach to support him in understanding why he wasn’t feeling connected to his purpose, where his excitement about this new opportunity was coming from, and what he was learning about himself along the way! They could have co-created a better plan, avoided a lot of damage and pain, and achieved an even greater outcome together.
If you've been feeling stuck, not sure why you feel that way, and not sure what to do about it, maybe coaching is just what you need. I'm never too busy for you and your referrals and the 60-minute consult is free! Why not give it a try? Set it up at www.victoriascottcoaching.com/contact.
